Building community, helping our neighbors, supporting the causes we care about — that’s the American way. Since 1917 – exactly 100 years ago – the U.S. tax code has encouraged charity by allowing taxpayers to write off their gifts. But the charitable deduction is only available to those who itemize on their taxes, and that means approximately 100 million American taxpayers aren’t able to take the deduction.
For its centennial year, we think it’s time to extend the charitable deduction to 100% of American taxpayers. So, we’re proud to launch Giving100 – a grassroots advocacy campaign that, from this point forward, will be driven by you.
Giving100 is about giving you the tools you need to demonstrate why the charitable deduction is so important to the charitable sector and the communities we serve. It’s about informing and inspiring your networks. It’s about telling stories of impact. And, ultimately, it’s about convincing policymakers that the charitable deduction should be accessible to every taxpayer.
- Join the Campaign: Visit the Giving100 Champions Wall and upload your logo to show that your organization believes the charitable deduction should be available to 100% of taxpayers.
- Share the Message: Share the Giving100 explainer video, infographics, and messages with your social networks using the hashtag #giving100. Download all of the assets and messaging on this page.

Expanding the charitable deduction will help make America a better, stronger, and fairer country. We hope you’ll help guide Giving100 to achieve that. If you have any questions or ideas, we want to hear them at giving100@independen1stg.wpengine.com.
