(WASHINGTON, June 20, 2018) – The following statement is from Daniel J. Cardinali, president and CEO of Independent Sector:
“Independent Sector has recently made a commitment to reigniting a national conversation on the future of civil society. As I read, watch, and listen to the news of what is happening at our Southern border, I cannot help but think that these events are antithetical to the values we hold as leaders in civil society.
Separating migrant families as they come over the border and denying children the care they need to survive and flourish is unconscionable. This “zero tolerance” policy recently implemented can be reversed today. We call on our elected leaders to use their powers toward finding a solution to this issue.
Until a political solution is found, I believe civil society must step in, as it always does, to mitigate the damage and the personal pain. This is a time for all sector organizations and leaders to use the voice they have to engage their policymakers.”
Independent Sector is the only national membership organization that brings together a diverse set of nonprofits, foundations, and corporations to advance the common good. Learn more at independen1stg.wpengine.com.
