Dan Cardinali, president and CEO, of Independent Sector, recently joined two national podcasts to talk about the sector’s response to the COVID-19 pandemic.
In the Business of Giving, hosted by Denver Frederick, Dan discussed the policy work IS and others are leading to ensure that the sector and our communities receive the relief they need in this crisis. He also highlighted some of the bright spots of how our sector is stepping up. Dan specifically mentioned how proud we were play a collaborative leadership role – along with some of our big philanthropic and nonprofit organizations, Leadership 18, Council on Foundations, and the National Council on Nonprofits, as well as many others – to secure a real victory enabling eligible nonprofits to apply for loans through the Small Business Association (SBA) program included in the recently passed stimulus bill – helping nonprofits to keep their staffs at work and continuing their important mission work.
In The Conference Board’s Environmental, Social & Governance (ESG) Center podcast, Dan joined Lindsay Beltzer, program manager of The Conference Board’s ESG Center, and Jeff Hoffman, Institute Leader of Corporate Citizenship & Philanthropy for The Conference Board, on how businesses and nonprofits are coming together and evolving their partnership models in the face of the pandemic. Pointing out that trust has dropped across the world in institutions – government, business, media, the nonprofit civil sector, or NGOs, per the Edelman Trust Index, Dan says business and the nonprofit sector are the most trusted right now. And he says these two sectors have an important responsibility and opportunity to work together to restore trust and harness a belief in people that we can get through this and not just survive it.
