Today, the Senate Finance Committee begins its consideration of Steven Mnuchin for the post of Secretary of the Treasury.
Mnuchin, a former partner at Goldman Sachs and hedge fund manager, was nominated for the post by President-elect Trump in late November 2016.
Among the agencies under Mnuchin’s purview as Treasury Secretary would be the Internal Revenue Service (IRS), which has direct oversight of the charitable sector.
Independent Sector has submitted a statement and questions for the official hearing record to learn more about Mnuchin’s experience and knowledge with respect to nonprofit and philanthropic organizations and charitable giving.
The questions in the official statement are a composite of IS priorities and those submitted by IS member digest readers. All questions were separately delivered to Finance Committee member offices for additional consideration as staff prepare for the hearing.
A recording of the hearing will be made available on the Finance Committee website.
Jamie Tucker is the director, public policy strategy and operations at Independent Sector.
