(WASHINGTON, August 15, 2022) – The Nonprofit Infrastructure Investment Advocacy Group (NIIAG) – a coalition of more than 50 organizations co-founded by Independent Sector and KABOOM! – issues the following statement about the U.S. House of Representatives’ passage on August 12, 2022 of the Inflation Reduction Act:
“The Inflation Reduction Act is an important step toward addressing climate change, and we applaud its small but significant funding for parts of the Nonprofit Infrastructure Investment Advocacy Group’s (NIIAG) policy agenda. Investments in resilience, clean postal vehicles, preserving and expanding outdoor recreational spaces, and addressing other infrastructure failings of the past will bolster the work of nonprofits toward building a more equitable nation.
On a broader level, we are extremely disappointed that this legislation does not contain many of the generational investments in civic and community infrastructure that passed the U.S. House of Representatives in the Build Back Better Act and have been at the core of NIIAG’s advocacy agenda. Funding for child care, workforce development, broadband access, and the Civilian Climate Corps are sorely needed, and we look forward to working with allies in Congress and the nonprofit sector to advance these priorities in the future. The work of building a healthy and equitable nonprofit sector – the main aim of our coalition – is also generational and requires clear focus and sustained advocacy. There is still much work to do.”

About KABOOM!
KABOOM! is the national nonprofit that works to achieve playspace equity. Kids who don’t have access to play miss out on childhood and are denied critical opportunities to build physical, social, and emotional health. And all too often, it more deeply affects communities of color. So, KABOOM! amplifies the power of communities to build inspiring playspaces that spark unlimited opportunities for every kid, everywhere. KABOOM! has teamed up with partners to build or improve more than 17,000 playspaces, engage more than 1.5 million community members and bring joy to more than 11 million kids.
