Nonprofit practitioners and researchers – what are your thoughts (and questions) regarding best practices, partisan divides, organization capacity, legal restrictions, and other variables that influence when, how, and why nonprofits impact voting and democracy?
By June 14, Independent Sector is inviting you to submit a short, 600-word proposal about the intersection of nonprofits, voting, and elections. Once again, IS and the Association for Research on Nonprofit Organizations and Voluntary Action (ARNOVA) are hosting the annual 2021 Policy Symposium, to be convened virtually on Friday, September 17.
Nonprofits nationwide played a role in the record-breaking voter participation in the 2020 elections. This year’s symposium will focus on nonprofit engagement in voting, equity, democratic participation, and election reform. Nonprofits play a role in keeping the wheels of democracy turning – including through voter education and advocacy for emergency election funding. What can we learn from research and lived experience to help shape the sector’s impact on democracy going forward?
Successful proposal submitters will be asked to write 2,000-4,000 word commentaries, present main points at the 2021 Symposium, and potentially be published in a journal. Again, the proposal submission deadline is June 14, 2021.
