Cath Thompson is the associate for programs and practice at Independent Sector. In this role, she provides research, programmatic, and administrative support to Independent Sector’s leadership development initiatives and critical cross-sector issues facing the charitable sector. Previous to this, Cath founded and ran a program for wellness education in the wake of conflict, trauma, or stress, in partnership with nonprofits including in the Middle East, Northern Ireland, and the U.S. Cath is a “creative convener” and experienced facilitator, and she has worked on leadership development programs including at the Truman National Security Project in Washington, DC. She was a Fulbright Scholar in Morocco, and also graduated from culinary school. Cath has a master’s degree in international relations from Queen’s University Belfast, where she was a Senator George Mitchell Scholar, and bachelor’s degrees in political science, international relations, peace and conflict resolution, and African studies from the University of Wisconsin – Madison. Outside of work, you can find Cath in the kitchen cooking up a storm, attempting to learn new languages, and exploring hidden corners of Baltimore, where she lives with her husband.
