Travis Swanson (he/him) is the Manager of Government Relations at Independent Sector. In this role, he is responsible for establishing and maintaining relationships with congressional offices to represent the interests of Independent Sector’s members and the charitable sector on Capitol Hill. With more than a decade of government relations experience in the nonprofit sector, Travis has a deep understanding of the legislative process, the unique needs of nonprofits, and the ways to build connections with legislators.
Before joining Independent Sector, Travis worked in government relations at both Planned Parenthood Federation of America and the Human Rights Campaign. In these roles, he developed a profound understanding of policy advocacy, coalition building, and legislative impact, making significant contributions to advancing social justice causes.
Travis holds a bachelor’s degree in Political Activism and Policy Change with double minors in Political Science and Social Justice, from the University of Wisconsin-Oshkosh. Beyond his professional endeavors, Travis serves as an elected Advisory Neighborhood Commissioner (ANC) in Washington, D.C. and has served on the board of several small nonprofit organizations. In his free time, Travis enjoys attending Washington Spirit matches and traveling the world with his partner.
